Instead, what this adds is new ways to upgrade your character as you progress. Especially where the fluid combat, frantic fire fights, and intricate battlefields are concerned. This is not to say that this expansion is exactly like the base game just that it's really, really similar. A third-person sci-fi shooter with a lot of role-playing game mechanics, this again has you fighting tons of bad guys - human and otherwise - as you search for a way to help other people solve the world's problems. Except where the base game had you trying to stop infighting between factions of human survivors, this add-on has you trying to stop the electrical storms that make Enoch so inhospitable to human life (and gave you mutant powers). In Outriders: Worldslayer, your attempt to make the alien planet Enoch more hospitable continues nonstop. Customizing gear and perfecting a build can be very complicated and the game’s lack of good tutorials compounds the problem.Though it doesn't change anything about this shooter in any meaningful way, this add-on to one of 2021's best action/adventure shooters offers more of the same good stuff. The fact that the game has had trouble retaining players means that there are fewer people to play with and fewer online resources for figuring the game out. The other problem is that it’s hard to find a group of random players unless you’re trying to do challenge runs of the dungeon. The worst bugs that plagued the original release seem to be gone, but there are still some lingering problems. I spent my time in the game playing with two friends and while we didn’t have any disconnect issues there was a lot of lag.

It becomes monotonous and in today’s market, there are a ton of other loot-driven games with a lot more variety. In order to perfect a character’s build, one would have to do many, many runs of the dungeon and there are not many other activities the player can engage in. The main problem with the long grind is the lack of variety in things to do. Moving up the ranks of “apocalypse tiers” which makes the game harder while increasing chances for finding legendary loot is a slow process. Killing hordes of enemies while improving your character is a ton of fun, especially when playing with a team, but it’s a grind that gets old before long. The real focus of the expansion was in the repeatable dungeon, Tarya Gratar, which has the player clearing rooms of enemies for loot and experience.

The main story of “Worldslayer” is also very short and can be completed in around 3 hours which is way too low for an expansion priced at 40 bucks.

While the writing itself still isn’t great the plot is interesting, but it, unfortunately, ends on a major cliffhanger and it’s unknown if it’ll be continued in another expansion or a full sequel. The player then embarks on a mission to stop deadly cosmic storms from consuming the entire surface of the planet while also taking on another super-powered villain. The story picks up after the end of the base game with the main character tracking down resources to help humanity survive on the hostile planet, Enoch. Since then there have been a number of updates leading up to the release of the game’s larger expansion “Worldslayer” which doubles down on almost everything the base game did for better and worse. Despite a promising foundation the game’s writing and a litany of bugs turned off a lot of players before they could really dig into the game. When “Outriders” was released last year it had a middling reception from critics and players.
